3D FlipBook by iberezansky (sold at 3dflipbook.net) is one of the longest-running 3D flipbook plugins for WordPress, with a claimed 100,000+ users and a strong technical reputation for its physics-based page-flip animation. It does the core job — PDF in, 3D flipbook out — well. If your needs go beyond that — accessibility compliance, content protection, text-to-speech, video overlays, hotspots, monetization, multi-PDF combining, native page-builder support, or a modern admin experience — the comparison gets a lot more interesting. This article walks through every meaningful feature in both plugins, plus the one-click migration path that brings your existing 3D FlipBook books across without re-uploading a single PDF. 3D Flipbook vs TNC Flipbook 3D is the comparison everyone has been waiting for. Let’s find out in detail.
A quick note on our story. TNC FlipBook 3D is not a new entrant. ThemeNcode shipped its first PDF viewer plugin for WordPress on CodeCanyon in 2014. Over the next decade that plugin grew into TNC FlipBook Classic (Elite Author, 9,000+ sales, 4.58/5 from 185 reviews, currently on version 12.5.7), evolving from a straightforward PDF viewer into a full FlipBook with multiple view modes, transcription, sound effects, and deep theming. TNC FlipBook 3D is the modern successor — rebuilt from the ground up with WebGL page-turn physics, accessibility, DRM, and read-aloud. The classic version is still actively maintained for sites that prefer the lighter, traditional viewer.

At-a-glance verdict
Both plugins render PDFs as 3D flipbooks in WordPress, and 3D FlipBook’s WebGL engine has been refined over many years. This is not a quality issue at the rendering layer. The difference is what each plugin does around the viewer. 3D FlipBook is a focused 3D PDF viewer with a WPBakery add-on. TNC FlipBook 3D is closer to a publishing platform: viewer plus accessibility, DRM, text-to-speech, monetization, hotspots, video, multi-PDF, WooCommerce gating, native blocks, four page-builder integrations, and a migration toolkit. If your only requirement is “show this PDF as a 3D flipbook,” 3D FlipBook is a fine choice. If your requirement is anything broader, the gap is large.
| Capability | 3D FlipBook | TNC FlipBook 3D |

Short version: 3D FlipBook is great if your job is "make this PDF look nice in 3D" and you only need a single PDF per book. TNC FlipBook 3D is built for publishers who need accessibility, DRM, read-aloud, hotspots, video, monetization, or WooCommerce gating — and our migration toolkit moves your existing 3D FlipBook books across in a single click.
Why users are switching to TNC FlipBook 3D
1. Compliance and accessibility audits
Schools, government departments, healthcare organizations, and any business that sells into the EU or U.S. public sector are now being asked to demonstrate WCAG 2.1 AA conformance. 3D FlipBook does not publish an accessibility statement and the public feature list does not mention WCAG, ARIA, screen-reader testing, focus management, or keyboard-shortcut help. For organizations subject to ADA, Section 508, AODA, or the European Accessibility Act, this becomes a blocker the first time legal or procurement asks for an accessibility statement. TNC FlipBook 3D was rebuilt with full accessibility support that handles all of this out of the box.
2. Document protection that actually works
3D FlipBook offers a hide-download toggle but no watermark system, no DevTools detection, no right-click or keyboard-shortcut blocking, no print protection, no screenshot deterrent, no domain locking. For casual content this is fine. For paid magazines, internal training documents, training course PDFs, or anything sensitive, it is not enough. TNC FlipBook 3D ships with a layered content protection system: text and image watermarks (rendered live and burned into print/download), DevTools detection with configurable response, right-click and keyboard-shortcut blocking, image-drag prevention, screenshot deterrents, and conversion of source paths so the original PDF is not exposed in the network panel.
3. More than a PDF viewer: 3D FlipBook vs TNC FlipBook 3D
3D FlipBook is, by design, a single-PDF viewer with a flip animation on top. TNC FlipBook 3D is closer to a publishing platform. The core plugin handles multi-PDF combining (named chapters, drag-to-reorder), image-gallery flipbooks, a visual click-to-place hotspot editor, per-page video overlays with positioning, custom Tables of Contents, notes & bookmarks, deep linking, page-limit gating with WooCommerce integration, and read aloud / text-to-speech. If your content is more than “one PDF, one flipbook” — catalogs assembled from quarterly inserts, magazines stitched from individual articles, course books built chapter by chapter — the difference shows up immediately.
Viewer modes & rendering engine
Both plugins render flipbooks the same way at a high level: PDF pages are converted to images, then animated as 3D pages in a WebGL scene. Both handle large PDFs efficiently with on-demand page loading. The differences show up in the secondary view modes and the depth of customization.
| Viewer feature | 3D FlipBook | TNC FlipBook 3D |
|---|---|---|
| WebGL 3D FlipBook | Yes | Yes — with refined corner-curl physics |
| CSS / 2D fallback | Limited fallback | Yes — with 4 effects: Realistic, Hard Cover, Slide, Fade |
| Vertical scroll viewer | No dedicated mode | Yes |
| Horizontal swipe viewer | No dedicated mode | Yes |
| Form-fill viewer with signature | No | Yes — fillable fields + signature capture, works on any PDF |
| Single / double page modes | Yes | Yes |
| Page-corner interaction | Yes | Yes — with refined physics and click guards |
| Page curl / paper flexibility | Yes | Curl intensity, paper type, paper shininess, paper roughness |
| Flip duration control | Yes | Yes |
| Flip sound effects | Configurable sound | 13 built-in sound effects + custom upload |
| Render scale (quality control) | Not exposed | Yes — tune for high-DPI vs performance |
| Camera angle & distance | Limited | Distance, angle, FOV, book tilt |
| Hardcover / Spiral book styles | Skin-based templates | Default, Hardcover, Spiral — with 3D cover panels and spine |
| Image-only FlipBooks | Yes | Yes |
| Multi-PDF combine into one book | No — one PDF per FlipBook | Yes — named chapters, drag-to-reorder |
| Force single-page on mobile | Responsive | Automatic with override |
| Auto-fit zoom on resize | Yes | Live recalculation on resize, orientation, page flip |
3D FlipBook ships its 3D engine and lightbox display modes. Where TNC FlipBook 3D pulls ahead in the viewer layer is the dedicated vertical and horizontal viewer modes, the form-fill viewer, depth of control over render scale and camera setup, multi-PDF combining, and a far richer flip-sound and effect library.
Form-fill mode: turn any PDF into a fillable, signable document
3D FlipBook does not offer a form-fill mode at all. TNC FlipBook 3D ships a dedicated Form Viewer that handles both real fillable PDFs and flat documents: visitors can fill in fields, draw or type a signature, and then download or print the completed document. Crucially, this works even on PDFs that were never authored as real forms — the viewer lets users place text and a signature anywhere on the page, so a flat scan of a contract, a paper enrollment form, or an exported invoice can be completed and signed without ever leaving your site.
- Native fillable field support for PDFs that already contain form fields (text, checkboxes, radios, dropdowns)
- Signature capture — draw with finger or trackpad, or type and convert to a signature font
- Free-text and signature placement on any PDF, including non-form documents
- Download or print the completed PDF with all fills and signatures flattened in
- Toolbar toggle so visitors can switch between flipping and form-filling without reloading
Design, themes & customization
3D FlipBook ships a set of prebuilt skins / templates and supports custom template creation if you are willing to write CSS and HTML. There is no built-in chrome palette, no light/dark toggle in the viewer toolbar, no brand-color picker, and no in-admin custom CSS editor with syntax highlighting. Anything beyond the bundled skins requires hand-written CSS.
| Customization | 3D FlipBook | TNC FlipBook 3D |
|---|---|---|
| Color schemes / chromes | Skin templates | 7 chromes (Slate, Paper, Midnight, Ocean, Forest, Glass, Sepia) |
| Brand color picker | Via custom CSS | Yes — drives buttons, focus rings, accents |
| Hardcover wrap color | Via custom CSS / skin | Dedicated picker; spine and bevels auto-derive |
| Light / dark toggle in viewer | No | Yes — auto / dark / light, user-toggleable |
| Custom logo | Custom skin only | Separate dark and light variants, configurable favicon |
| Custom CSS editor | External file editing | Built-in editor with syntax highlighting, global + per-FlipBook |
| Toolbar layout positions | Skin-defined | 4 toolbar layout positions |
| Per-FlipBook overrides | Per-shortcode attributes | Per-FlipBook overrides for every global setting |
Admin experience: 3D Flipbook vs TNC FlipBook 3D
The customer-facing viewer is only half of any FlipBook plugin. The other half is the admin panel where you spend your time configuring FlipBooks, tweaking settings, and building content. This is where the gap is most obvious the moment you open both plugins side by side.
3D FlipBook’s admin is functional but dense: a long settings list, skin-based templating, and a per-FlipBook editor that follows the standard WordPress post structure with an extensive shortcode-attribute reference. Common tasks like swapping a skin, adjusting a camera angle, or seeing the effect of a setting change require you to know the right attribute name and then preview the result.
TNC FlipBook 3D’s admin was redesigned from scratch with the WordPress block editor era in mind. Every screen follows a consistent visual system: clear section headings, generous spacing, descriptive helper text under every field, and inline previews where they matter.
| Admin task | 3D FlipBook | TNC FlipBook 3D |
|---|---|---|
| Settings organization | Long flat settings list | Tabbed: General, Display, Toolbar, Protection, Integrations, Accessibility, Advanced |
| Per-FlipBook editor | Standard post screen + shortcode attributes | Tabbed metabox: Content, Display, Toolbar, Protection, Read Aloud, SEO, WooCommerce, Advanced |
| PDF upload | Standard media field | Card / dropzone with thumbnail preview |
| Multi-PDF management | Not supported | Card list with drag-to-reorder handles, named chapters |
| Image gallery management | Image picker | A4-aspect previews, drag-to-reorder, contained fit |
| Color picker | Skin selector + manual CSS | Chrome palette swatches + brand color picker + live preview |
| Toggles | Native checkboxes | Modern on/off switches with helper text |
| Boolean / numeric controls | Plain inputs | Sliders, segmented controls, accordion groups where it helps |
| Language selector | Plain dropdown | Searchable dropdown across 194+ languages |
| Custom CSS field | External / theme CSS | Editor with syntax highlighting and live refresh on tab change |
| Hotspot creation | Hand-coded CSS layers | Visual click-to-place editor with action picker |
| Shortcode generator | Static reference page | Live-updating builder with all parameters in one panel |
| Source-type guidance | Documentation only | Live notice when other source types have data, "View FlipBook" link |
| Welcome / onboarding | Documentation only | Dedicated welcome screen with guides, support links, and an FAQ |
Bottom line: 3D FlipBook's admin is fine if you are comfortable reading documentation and editing CSS. TNC FlipBook 3D's admin is built so a new user, a freelancer setting up a client site, or a team handing the plugin off between editors can find what they need without reading the documentation first.
Accessibility (WCAG 2.1 AA)
This is the single biggest functional gap between the two plugins. 3D FlipBook does not publish an accessibility statement and the public feature list does not mention WCAG, ARIA, screen-reader testing, focus management, or keyboard shortcuts beyond basic navigation. For organizations subject to ADA, Section 508, AODA, or the European Accessibility Act, this is a blocker the first time legal or procurement asks for an accessibility statement.
TNC FlipBook 3D ships with a dedicated accessibility layer covering:
- Full keyboard navigation for every viewer mode (3D, 2D, vertical, horizontal, form-fill)
- ARIA roles and live regions on the toolbar, page indicator, search, thumbnails, and bookmarks
- Focus trap inside modals (share, more menu, settings)
- Visible focus rings that respect the active brand color
- Keyboard shortcut help dialog (press ?)
- Reduced-motion respect for users with the OS setting enabled
- Read Aloud / text-to-speech for low-vision and dyslexic readers (covered in the next section)
- Light/dark toggle and 7 surface palettes for users with photosensitivity preferences
Read Aloud / Text-to-Speech
3D FlipBook does not offer text-to-speech. TNC FlipBook 3D includes a Read Aloud system with two tiers:
- Browser TTS — free, all versions, uses the visitor’s operating-system voices. Per-sentence playback with word-level highlighting.
- Cloud TTS (Pro) — pre-generated, high-quality audio from your choice of provider: Google Cloud TTS (400+ voices), Azure Speech (500+ neural voices), Amazon Polly (NTTS), ElevenLabs, OpenAI TTS. Audio is generated server-side from the Read Aloud admin tab and served as MP3 for instant playback.
Read Aloud has an obvious accessibility benefit, but it is also a powerful engagement feature for editorial publishing, language learning, and audiobook-style brochures. None of this exists in 3D FlipBook.
Content protection & DRM
3D FlipBook’s protection model is essentially a download / right-click toggle pair. There is no watermark system, no DevTools detection, no print protection, no screenshot deterrent, no source-path obfuscation. For paid magazines, training course PDFs, internal documentation, or anything sensitive, this is not enough.
| Protection feature | 3D FlipBook | TNC FlipBook 3D |
|---|---|---|
| Text watermark | No | Yes — configurable text, rotation, opacity, repeat |
| Image watermark | No | Yes — PNG with transparency, configurable width |
| Hide download button | Yes (toggle) | Yes (toggle) |
| PDF password | Manual on the PDF itself | Yes — configurable per FlipBook |
| DevTools detection | No | Yes — blur / warning / no-action |
| Right-click blocking | Partial | Yes |
| Keyboard-shortcut blocking | No | Yes |
| Image-drag prevention | No | Yes |
| Print protection & print watermark | No | Yes |
| Screenshot deterrent | No | Yes |
| Source-path obfuscation | No | Yes — PDFs are not exposed in the network panel |
Hotspots, video overlays & interactivity
3D FlipBook supports custom CSS layers for adding interactive content on top of pages. This is powerful in the right hands but means anything beyond a basic clickable area is a hand-coded HTML/CSS exercise. There is no visual hotspot editor, no built-in video overlay system, no notes, and no bookmarks.
| Interactivity | 3D FlipBook | TNC FlipBook 3D |
|---|---|---|
| PDF link rendering | Yes | Yes — toggleable per FlipBook |
| Visual hotspot editor | No (CSS layers, hand-coded) | Yes — click-to-place, action picker (link, popup, page jump, media) |
| Per-page video overlays | Hand-coded | Yes — positioning, autoplay, draggable, resizable per video |
| Custom Table of Contents | Custom bookmarks | Yes — per FlipBook, with deep links |
| Notes (reader-side) | No | Yes |
| Bookmarks | PDF bookmarks + custom | Yes |
| Deep linking to a page | Yes | Yes |
Page builder, Gutenberg & WooCommerce
3D FlipBook ships shortcodes and offers a separate WPBakery add-on. There is no native widget for Elementor, Avada / Fusion Builder, or Divi, and no native Gutenberg block — you embed the shortcode inside a generic shortcode or HTML block.
TNC FlipBook 3D ships native integrations across WordPress’s most-used builders.
Native blocks & widgets
- Three Gutenberg blocks — Embed, Popup Button, Popup Link — with full parameter parity with the shortcodes (page, theme, effect, sound, autoplay, language, transparent, popupTheme, nofollow)
- Elementor — native widget category with a FlipBook picker (3D FlipBook has no Elementor integration)
- WPBakery (Visual Composer) — native elements (3D FlipBook has a separate WPBakery add-on; ours is bundled)
- Avada / Fusion Builder — native elements (3D FlipBook has no Avada support)
- Divi — native modules (3D FlipBook has no Divi support)
WooCommerce
- Link a FlipBook to a WooCommerce product
- Gate pages behind purchase with a configurable preview-page limit
- Custom gating message and post-purchase redirect
- Automatic product page preview embed
3D FlipBook has no WooCommerce integration. If you sell paid PDFs, training material, or magazines, this is the difference between “shortcode + plugin glue + custom code” and “tick a checkbox.”
Monetization & analytics
3D FlipBook does not ship any monetization, analytics, or tracking system. To monetize a 3D FlipBook book, you wrap it with your own ads at the page level.
TNC FlipBook 3D ships GA4 integration in the core plugin. An optional Self-Hosted Analytics add-on provides an in-WordPress dashboard with charts for page views and events, plus configurable data retention. An optional Monetize add-on handles six ad slot types covering the full reading lifecycle:
- Preroll — fullscreen ad before the FlipBook loads (skip delay, max duration, “show once” option)
- Banner — fixed top or bottom strip with optional close button
- Sidebar — desktop side panel (respects minimum-screen-width threshold, collapsible)
- Overlay — appears on specific pages (configurable page list, close delay, backdrop)
- InterPage — shows between page flips (every N flips via frequency, max-shows cap)
- Endroll — appears when reaching the last page
Internationalization (194+ languages)
3D FlipBook supports right-to-left and provides a multi-language string mechanism that lets you translate toolbar labels by hand. There is no built-in pre-translated viewer UI — you supply the translations yourself.
TNC FlipBook 3D ships pre-translated viewer UI across 194+ languages out of the box (240+ translation keys per language) and automatically applies right-to-left layout for Arabic, Hebrew, Persian, Urdu, Kurdish, Pashto, Sindhi, Yiddish, Sorani, and Uyghur. No manual label overrides needed. The admin uses standard WordPress textdomain support so it will translate alongside the plugin shop’s locale.
Developer extensibility
| Developer feature | 3D FlipBook | TNC FlipBook 3D |
|---|---|---|
| WordPress action / filter hooks | Limited | 60+ documented hooks |
| Public JS API | Yes (jQuery-based) | Yes — navigation, viewer state, event system |
| JS event system | Limited | Yes (page change, flip start, flip end, etc.) |
| REST API | No | Yes (analytics + extensibility endpoints) |
| Export / import FlipBooks | No | Yes — bundles attached media so FlipBooks can move between sites |
| Public developer documentation | Online docs site | Yes — published in the docs |
If you build sites for clients and need to extend a FlipBook plugin (custom analytics, custom protection, custom UI overlays, integrations into a CMS pipeline), TNC FlipBook 3D’s hook surface is the difference between “fork the plugin” and “drop in a small custom plugin.”
Migration toolkit: 1-click import from 3D FlipBook
Already running 3D FlipBook? The TNC FlipBook 3D Migration Toolkit imports every existing FlipBook in a single click, with optional 301/302 redirects so your existing URLs keep working.
The Migration Toolkit lives at WordPress Admin → Tools → FlipBook Migration and detects installed source plugins automatically. If 3D FlipBook (or DearFlip, Real3D FlipBook, Interactive3D, or Classic PDF Viewer) is present and has FlipBooks in your database, a source card appears with the count of FlipBooks ready to import.
What gets carried over
- Title, status, slug, featured image, categories and author terms
- PDF source and image-gallery pages — the original PDF / image attachments are preserved
- View mode mapped to the closest TNC FlipBook 3D equivalent
- Page mode and auto-mobile single-page detection
- Custom bookmarks / outline — carried over as a custom Table of Contents
- Background and basic styling settings
- Open-page parameter — deep-linked landing pages keep working
- Categories — mapped to FlipBook categories
What needs manual review
Some 3D FlipBook-specific settings have no direct equivalent. The migrator records what was skipped on each imported FlipBook so you can review:
- Custom CSS layers / hand-coded hotspots — flagged for review so you can rebuild them with our visual hotspot editor.
- Custom skin templates — if you wrote a custom skin, the migrator notes which FlipBooks used it and recommends a chrome palette closest to your custom theme.
- Lightbox / popup launcher buttons on pages around the site — recreate them with the FlipBook Link or Image-Link block / shortcode (the migrator cannot find them automatically because they live in post content, not FlipBook records).
Optional automatic redirects
The migrator includes a redirect option (checkbox plus a 301/302 selector inside the migrate form). When enabled, every imported FlipBook stores a redirect from its original 3D FlipBook URL to its new TNC FlipBook 3D URL, and incoming visits are forwarded automatically with the status code you chose. Redirects are managed under a dedicated tab where you can add manual entries, toggle individual rows, bulk delete, or clear them all.
How long does it take?
Source cards only appear when matching FlipBook posts actually exist in your database. Deleting the source plugin’s posts hides its card automatically; uninstalling the plugin alone is not enough, because the migrator reads the data directly from the database. That means the source plugin can stay active or be deactivated during import — either works.
- Under 50 FlipBooks: 2–5 minutes including the redirect pass
- 50–500 FlipBooks: 5–15 minutes
- 500+ FlipBooks: 15–45 minutes (the migrator processes in batches; the page can be left open or closed)
Recommendation: run the migration on a staging site first if you have more than a hundred FlipBooks. The migrator is non-destructive (3D FlipBook data stays in the database), so you can import to staging, smoke-test a handful of imported FlipBooks, then run the same import on production with the redirect option enabled.

Who should switch — and who probably should not
Switch to TNC FlipBook 3D if:
- You are subject to accessibility audits (ADA, Section 508, WCAG 2.1 AA, EAA)
- Your FlipBooks contain sensitive content that needs DRM beyond a download toggle
- You publish in non-English languages or RTL scripts and want viewer translations out of the box
- You want WooCommerce purchase gating or in-FlipBook monetization
- You need multi-PDF combining (catalogs, magazines, course books)
- You need video overlays, hotspots, or a form-fill / signature mode
- You want native blocks for Gutenberg, Elementor, WPBakery, Avada, or Divi instead of pasting shortcodes
- You build sites for clients and want a FlipBook plugin with a documented developer surface and a modern admin
3D FlipBook is probably enough if:
- You have a single-language site, no accessibility requirements, no DRM requirement, and no plans to extend the plugin
- You are comfortable writing CSS for skinning and hand-coding interactive layers
- Your only requirement is a single-PDF 3D viewer with a WPBakery add-on and you do not need any of the broader publishing features above

Frequently asked questions
Do I have to deactivate 3D FlipBook before importing?
No. The migrator reads 3D FlipBook’s data directly from your WordPress database, so it can stay active during the migration. We recommend deactivating it only after you have verified the imported FlipBooks look correct, so you can safely roll back if something looks off.
Will the two plugins conflict if both are active?
No. The two plugins use different post types and different shortcodes, so they do not collide. This is the recommended setup during a staged migration.
What about the custom CSS layers I built in 3D FlipBook?
The migrator flags every FlipBook that used custom CSS layers and notes them on the imported record so you can rebuild them with our visual hotspot editor — usually a much faster process than the original hand-coded version.
Will my deep-linked URLs keep working?
Yes. The migration toolkit optionally writes 301 or 302 redirects from your old 3D FlipBook URLs to the new TNC FlipBook 3D URLs. Visitors clicking older links are forwarded automatically.
What about 3D FlipBook's WPBakery add-on?
TNC FlipBook 3D ships with native WPBakery elements (no separate add-on needed) plus native integrations for Elementor, Avada / Fusion Builder, and Divi. Anywhere you used the 3D FlipBook WPBakery element, you can drop in our WPBakery element instead.
Is everything in TNC FlipBook 3D included in the core plugin?
The viewer features that 3D FlipBook does not have at all — accessibility, DRM, hotspots, video overlays, custom Tables of Contents, page-limit gating, WooCommerce integration, and GA4 analytics — are all in the core TNC FlipBook 3D plugin. Optional add-ons cover specialized use cases: Display (bookshelf layouts), Monetize (ad slots), Self-Hosted Analytics (in-WordPress dashboard), AI Chatbot, Lead Capture, SEO & AI Search, and PDF Stamper. Page builder support for Elementor, WPBakery, Avada / Fusion Builder, and Divi ships through companion plugins.
